Lots big and fat sails were caught during the 10 th "Logito Big Game Tournament" off southern Angola in West Africa.

Angler Luisa Baptista caught a 136 lb - 61.60 kg sail on 20 pound test.

During the same billfish tournament, an other huge 142 lb - 64.32 kg sailfish was caught by Marco Couto. This fish could beat the 30 lb class record and all-tackle record. The previous all-tackle was also caught in Angola in 1994.

It is also the second greater ever caught here in Kenya; the first was caught ten years ago and weighed 1.197 pounds.

COSTA RICA: monster size 60 pound snook caught

Fishing guide Ward Michaels has recently caught an huge size snook while fishing in Costa Rica. This Florida fisherman has traveled to Costa Rica more than 80 times over the last three decades, and seems that now has caught the new all-tackle world record for this specie.

Wards’ catch was one of several giant snook that he and three friends  landed during a 3 day expedition along Costa Rica central Pacific coast.  They landed several in the 30 lb class, but also behemoths weighing 47 and 50 pounds; the last day they caught 4 well over 40 pounds

The biggest Pacific black snook he caught tipped the scale at 60 pounds - 27,20 kg. Michaels planned to submit details of the catch to the IGFA (International Game Fish Association - www.igfa.org).

If this world record application will be approved it will eclipse the current record: a 57-pound, 12-ounce black snook caught by angler George Beck at Rio Naranjo in Quepos, Costa Rica.

The friend trio led them to a sand bar inhabited by female snook in the pre spawn stage. They slowly trolled sardines over the sand bar, at a depth of about 30-40 ft, and the fat snook could not resist the offerings.

This past week some lucky anglers  fishing off Costa Rica were surprised and surely astonished to discover that a large marlin they hooked and landed was completely white; it was a very rare ablino blue marlin.

The  rare catch of an albino  marlin was made aboard the 43 ft "Spanish Fly", of the famous Maverick Sportfishing out of Los Suenos on the Pcacific Sside of Costa Rica.

The boat was captained by Juan Carlos Fallas Zamora, with clients Bob and Karen Weaver, from New York.
Karen reeled the billfish to leader after a one hour and half of fight, after which it was carefully released by the crew.

This is some of the best shots we have seen, with numerous jumps as well some shots close to the boat.

IGFA: new world records of March 2014

Here the last IGFA world record fishes submitted this month

While jigging off Latham Island, Tanzania (africa) on November 16 2013, angler and IGFA representative Jason Alexiou captured an enormous dogtooth tuna (Gymnosarda unicolor) that tipped the scales at 102.8 kg or 226 lb 10 oz eclipsing the current men’s 37 kg (80 lb) line class record by more than 2.5 kg (5 lb)! After crushing the Yozuri Hydrometer jig, the massive doggy put up a brutal forty minute fight that tested all of Alexiou’s wits, as well as the drag on his Shimano Stella. If approved, this will be the third heaviest dogtooth tuna ever recorded by the IGFA – only four pounds shy of the "All-Tackle" record.

Last summer, angler Olivier Charpentier traveled from his home in Panama to Canada’s Tree River, where he caught the potential new All-Tackle Length record Arctic char (Salvelinus alpinus) on July 18, 2013. Charpentier’s 90 cm fish hit the Blue Fox spoon he was casting and was quickly subdued. Once landed, the fish was quickly measured, photographed, and released alive. The current IGFA record is 86 cm.

Angler Elizabeth Johnson caught the potential new women’s 10 kg (20 lb) tippet class record black drum (Pogonias cromis) on February 15th while fly fishing Louisiana’s Biloxi Marsh with guide Brian Johnson. The 17.5 kg (38 lb 8 oz) drum was enticed by a well-placed clouser and put up a tough 10 minute fight before it was landed. Once they had boated the catch, angler and captain worked quickly to properly document and successfully release the potential record fish. The current IGFA record is 15.33 kg (33 lb 12 oz).
