NEW ZEALAND: 42 lb brown trout landed!

An other huge huge trout was caught in New Zealand. Angler Otwin Kandolf described the giant brown trout  as the “submarine trout.”

Kandolf  caught the 20,5 kg - 45 lb and 1 oz. brown trout while fishing the Ohau B hydro canal. He told  that he cast toward the fish after seeing it feeding on pellets. He landed the monster trout few minutes after.

The fish measured just over 36,6 inches long and was nearly a foot wide. Its 45 lb and 1 oz  weight easily beats the 41 lb 8 oz IGFA (International Game Fish Association)’s record trout caught in Lake Michigan by Roger Hellen.

It is unclear if Otwin will submit his fish to IGFA (there are several conflicting media reports)

Otwin sent his monster brown Kiwi to a taxidermist to be mounted.

This is not the first time the hydro canals have reported big hauls - back in 2005 there was a report of a Timaru man catching a 16, 72 kilo trout, while in 2003, the Herald reported a brown trout being caught, ranging from 13,5 kilo to 18 kilo. Another fisherman managed to haul a 39lb - 18 kilo  from the canals in 2012.

NEWS: discover shark with two heads

This news appeared on CNN tv and seems to be real. A fisherman discovers a two head bull shark. The fish was at the Michigan State University to be studied.

TURKEY: 2000 lb bluntnose sixgill shark

Along Turkey southern Mediterranean coast of the Mersin Province an huge bluntnose sixgill shark ( Hexanchus griseus ) was laned by a commercial fisherman.

It was said to be 16 feet - 5 metres in length and 2000lb -  900 kg in weight.

NORWAY: giant Atlantic cod of 82 lb

Angler David Cornfeldt Smashes landed an huge cod over the 80 lbs mark while fishing in Northern Norway.

According with the  Norway Guide Fishing blog this monster cod was 37,4 kg or 82 lbs and was caught using a Savage Gear Herring Cutbait in the always effective Firetiger color!

PANAMA: snook of 56 pound

Panama angler Kike Simone landed this huge snook (robalo)  of 56 lb - 25.35 kilo.

ITALY: giant wels catfish of 260 lb

An other huge wels catfish was landed on Po river in Northern Italy.

Angler David Otto from Germany caught this monster catfish of 99 inch or 253 centimetres and for a weight of 260 lb or 122,5 kilo.

The world record size catfish was released after the shot.

USA: Oklahoma Record Largemouth Bass

On other largemouth bass state record for  Oklahoma. Famous Cedar Lake in the state southeast  has produced its second state record largemouth bass in less than 1 year. This new bass new record was caught on March 13 by angler Dale Miller and weighed 13 pound and 7 oz.

Miller caught the huge bass at around 11.45 in the morning with an Hawg Hunter Bait rod set up with an Abu Garcia Revo reel and an Alabama rig as lure.

The fish measured  23.1 inches in girth and 26 1/8 inches in length.

The last three state record largemouth bass as well as several from the state's "Top 20 Largemouth Bass Lis" it have been caught in the southern and southeast regions of this state.

This huge 145 lb - 65 kilo grouper was caught off  Three Kings islands in New Zealand aboard Enchanter Fishing Charters.

USA: Florida huge 14 lb snakehead

At the beginning of this month in the state of Florida a biologist named Kelly Gestring landed  a big 14 lb 3 oz bullseye snakehead during an electric-shocking expedition  Northwest Broward.

Had the snakehead been landed with rod and reel, it would have beaten the IGFA (International Game Fish Association’s www.igfa.org)  all-tackle record snakehead by over 1,5 lb.

Snakeheads, like some twentyone other species of fish found in Florida’s canals, are not native to the state or US . As such, they impact the environment in a negative way. The fact that  an invasive fish like  Gestring’s can obtain such a weight is proof that the species is making itself at home.

AUSTRALIA: an other black marlin from the rocks

The "Tubes Rock" ledge at Jervis Bay on the NSW in Australia has produced an other back marlin.

This rocky place on the south coast has been the venue for some land based game fishing anglers in recent weeks and has produced lot of memorable action.

Angler Bob Russo reports that last week, a black marlin of around 300 pound - 140 kg had been taken from the well known Tubes rock platform.

An other lucky angler reportedly accounted for 2 black marlin there in one day. There were also reports of many fish hooked and lost and the occasional hear-tbreaking "spool out".

It was reported that around 15 black marlin were hooked from the ledge over the two days with 5 fish in total kept and transported to shore by boat. He also reports that several marlin were also successfully released by anglers.

VANUATU: giant trevally 130+ lb

This monster size giant trevally was caught in Vanuatu Island while spearfishing. It isn't not clear about the weight of this huge GT but surely 130 lb plus or more.

Not catch and release, for this wonderful fish.....

NORWAY: giant cod fishing off Sørøya

At "Nordic Sea Anglings" camp on Sørøya Island in Norway, the first guests arrived and spend the first week of March facing though conditions and very unpredictable weather. The biggest Atlantic cod caught during the first week was 60 pound - 28 kilos, but unfortunately the weather didn’ t allow the guests to spend much time on the best hot spots.

During the 2nd week of fishing, the weather has been better but still a bit unpredictable. Never the less the guests are able to fish and right now the monsters are being caught.

A huge size Atlantic cod is above 75 pound - 30 kilos and the first one of the season was caught the 8 th of March. It took the scale to 68 pound -  31 kilos. The day after the fishing was even better and in an area found two or three nautical miles from the camp over fifteen cods over 45 pound - 20 kilos were caught. The biggest was a super-size cod weighing 72 pound - 33 kilos. The lucky angler was Stefan Smith from Sweden. The day after another monster size cod was caught: 71 pound - 30.5 kilos!

NORWAY: 77 pound atlantic cod

Danish Angler Max, smashes through the magic 70 pound / 30 kilo mark landing this huge monster Atlantic Cod of 77 pound / 35 kilo.

He was fishing in Norway and using as bait a 32 cm Savage Gear Herring shad in Blue silver - fished on a cut-bait jig head. He was guided by  guideservice Norway Guidefishing

AUSTRALIA: 780 pound marlin record

In the town of Exmouth in  Australia a large Blue Marlin of 780 lbs was laned.

The big marlin will draw a lot of attention during the annual "GAMEX Tournament" infact angler Mark McKay and the crew on the "Blue Horizon" managed to land this big blue, beating the old record of 726 lbs.

In the same Tournament, the boat "Grand Slam" brought in a 450 lbs. Blue Marlin, showing that some big girls do swim in these waters.

SCOTLAND: 67 pound ling fish boated

Angler James Isbister,  boated a record  ling fish (Molva molva) measuring 6 feet and 67 pounds or 30.35 kilos last February  2013. The huge ling was caught in the afternoon off the coast of Muckle Flugga island, located on the Shetland Archipelago of Scotland.

 The fish will undergo scrutiny from the official "British Record Fish Committee" to establish whether it's a new record for the specie.

CAPE VERDE: hot blue marlin action

Here the last report from Captain Zak Conde on Amelia operanting in Capo Verde islands in the middle of Atlantic Ocean:

"five days ago on the way to Sao Vicente, Ronnie and Lino hat two on two (300 lbs and 500 lbs).
We fished altogether ten days and we had 3 for3 at the end of our trip.
We start fishing 4 days ago with angler Thomas Petersen and his friend Kent from Denmark.
Day one, we left Sao Vicente direct to Sao Nicolau island and had nothing on the way.
On day two we had a triple header and caught one.

Yesterday we had3 for 3; a 450 lbs, 250 lbs and a 350 lbs).
Today we had a great day with 4 on 4 (400 lbs, 300 lbs, 350 lbs and a small250 lbs). We raced two more but they didn’t bite."

ITALY: huge wels catfish of 7,7 feet

In Italy on river Po was landed a giant wels catfish. This huge fish was 2.33 metre long (7,7 feet). It was caught by Team Black Cat on February 2013.

It is one of the biggest wels catfishes ever caught in this period in Italy.The fish was released after the photo.

IRELAND: skate of 182 pound landed

Anglers Rosco and Davy Craig had a great day out last week in glorious conditions, sunny, no wind. Using some frozen mackerels and standard rigs they had some great results on the sea while fishing dogfish sharks.

The hooked and landed a big skate.The fight was an endurance battle for both fish and fisherman but after 45 minutes it surfaced near the boat.

At this point it could be seen that a small dogfish had taken the bait. The big skate must have swooped on the dogfish shark just as Rosco lifted the rod and got itself hooked.

This big size skaye was measured and turned out at 182 pound - 82 kilos; the fish was tagged and then swam away strongly when returned.

Texas native Thomas Gibson has been traveling to Africa for years, where he has racked up several impressive records on large tarpon and jacks. However, on a recent tarpon trip with IGFA Representative Iain Nicolson, Gibson landed a Guinean barracuda (Sphyraena afra) that could potentially earn him the new All-Tackle record. While trolling a Rapala plug in Barra du Kwanza, Angola on February 14th, Gibson hooked into this massive ‘cuda that took him 10 minutes to land on 37 kg (80 lb) tackle. Tipping the scales at 46.4 kg (102 lb 4 oz), Gibson’s fish could earn him the new men’s 37 kg (80 lb) line class record, which currently stands at 31 kg (68 lb 5 oz), as well as the All-Tackle record which is 45.9 kg (101 lb 3 oz).

Fabio Lazzaroni of Milan, Italy was fly fishing the Po River with Paolo Pacchiarini in their native country of Italy on January 11th when he came tight on a quality fish. After eating a well-presented conch fly and putting up a 5 minute fight, Fabio subdued a 2.27 kg (5 lb) barbel (Barbus barbus). After some photos and a quick weighing, the fish was released alive. Lazzaroni’s fish qualifies him for the potential new 6 kg (12 lb) tippet class record, which is currently vacant.

Venezuelan angler Carlos Aristeguieta landed a 4.08 kg (9 lb 0 oz) payara (Hydrolycus spp.) while fly fishing Uraima Falls, Venezuela on February 12th. Aristeguieta was casting a custom streamer fly on light gear and needed 26 minutes to land this toothy freshwater fish. With the current record at 3.62 kg (8 lb 0 oz), Aristeguieta’s fish qualifies him for the potential new 4 kg (8 lb) tippet class record.

Greenland sharks are caught in bottom trawl along the Greenland shelf. This big one was caught last week. These contributed to a large scale study of Greenland sharks revealing basic biological parameters concerning feeding ecology in Greenland waters. See the video:

SPAIN: giant 240 pound great amberjack

According with Facebook page of angler Dirk  Wolthuis this monster great amberjack of 240 pound or 110 kilos was landed at La Palma Island in Canay Archipelago (Spain). The huge fish was 85 inch -  2.18 metre long and was landed only after 1.5 hour of fight.

CANADA: Ontario biggest muskie ever

Angler Dryden resident Travis Tourond hefts a monster big fat muskie caught while fishing in the southern end of Wabigoon Lake in Ontario, Canada.

The muskie measured 57 inches in length and 26 inches in girth; common calculators estimate the fish’s weight at just over 48 lbs - 21.74 kg.

A very quick battle; in fact Tourond said the battle was  lasting about 45 seconds as the fish swam straight at the boat. After some measurements and a quick photo, the fish was returned to the water.

It is one of the biggest muskie ever caught in Canada.

SPAIN: 35 plus pound northern pike

This fat northern pike was caught by joung angler Adrian Hidalgo Diez near Valladolid in in Spain. The estimated weight was around 35 lb or more. It was caught casting  a  S.killer bleeding albino of Lunkermania. It not clear if the big pike was released after the photo or not.

IRELAND: huge 31 pound pike

A new report  from the Shercock area of the County of Cavan in Ireland.

A giant pike caught in the past week in one of the small loughs there. Pike angler Brian McDonnell from Lucan in the county of. Dublin and a member of "Dublin Trout Anglers" has been catching some nice pike this year on several venues in Co. Cavan.

Using ledgered half mackerel, Brian hooked and landed a fish of a lifetime. He quickly weighed the fish on certified scales and it weighed 31 pound or 14.06 kilograms. The big pike  was quickly photographed and returned to the water.

USA: huge blue catfish of 77 and 80 lb

Angler  Jeff Mills  was fishing with "Nightstalker Guide Service" when he hooked and landed this monster  77 pounder blue catfish.

 A month later, March 2, angler Eric McGrady March caught a bigs 80 pounder.

Now is the time for trophy blue cats on the James River!

USA: 70 pound striped bass from Alabama

Angler James Bramlett, landed a giant 70 pound - 31.70 kilo striped bass from the Black Warrior River near the Gorgas Steam Plant.

 After a battle that lasted more than 25 minutes, he landed the record fish and immediately called his wife.

Bramlett used a Mustad 6.0 hook, Ambassador 7000 as reel, an Ugly Stik rod with Berkley Big Game 30 pound test line to catch the giant striped bass.

The huge fish was weighed on certified scales and officials and a fisheries biologist with the "Alabama Department of Wildlife and Natural Resources" were at Bramlett's home today to make it official. The fish was 45.5 inches long and has a 37.75 inch girth.

THis fish tops the previous state record by 15 pounds that has stood since late 1959  caught on the Tallapoosa River.

The record stiped may become the new I.G.F.A. world record for a landlocked stripe bass. That record currently stands at only 67 poundsa and 8 ounces

THAILAND: huge 210 lb arapaima on lure

Here the last report from top Thailand fishing guide Jean Francois Helias: "Two days ago (Feb. 27). on our second trip to a new destination we are now guiding at, we caught an impressive 95.00 kg / 210 pounds on lure. The very reddish mega fish failed for a Yo-zuri lure (I wish to not giving away the model details), courtesy of Yo-zuri American big boss George Large. 

Congratulations to French angler Jean-Remi Plagne, from Montpellier in southern France, who hooked up that giant fish on a 6’6 Pro Kik custom built rod coupled to a Shimano Twin Power 4000 spinning reel. It took him quite some time to tame the hard fighting beast, which went airborne a couple of times, before finally giving up.

An unforgettable memory for Plagne and for his fishing partner Didier Montagnon! Both were on their second trip with us, and already had some outstanding trophy fish catches on both of their 2012 and 2013 trips.

That new lake, located close to Bangkok, is lure fishing only. Live fish/dead fish bait fishing is not allowed there. The fish species to be targeted are mainly Arapaima (the lake has the biggest population of Arapaima in Thailand; biggest ones over 100 kilos). We fished that lake only twice to date, catching 9 arapaima  though there are several others such as redtail catfish, giant snakehead, hemibagrus, etc. Some Alligator gar there are up to 30.00 kilos. Also one Wallago leeri caught  there recently weighted 40.00 kilos.

RODRIGUES ISLAND: 330 lb marlin on fly

Bob, who is used to fish in Mauritius, came to test Rodrigues as a destination on a single day trip with a friend from a fishing centre based in Switzerland. These specialists in “fly fishing” are successful with a black marlin of 330 lb - 150 kg. Thierry is as much at his ease on the fighting chair as in his single seater craft. Doggies between 15 kg and 18 kg on bait on jigging tackle, wahoos, jobfish, red snappers and bonitos are the main species. The test is thus quite conclusive for this team we liked very much.

GALAPAGOS: 175 lb huge giant trevally

According to the Facebook web page of Carlos Carvalho, this monster giant trevally was caught from the rocks. I was 175 lb or 79 kilos!! Probably the biggest gint trevally ever caught with rod and reel.
