HAWAII: 1022 pound blue marlin
An huge 1022 pound blue marlin was caught during the annual Hawaii Fisherwoman Big Island Marlin Tournament. Angler Molly Palmer, shown here, finally had to give up on this blue marlin, which would have, if she’d not asked for assistance, set a new world record in the second week in August. Back at the docks in Kona, the crew of the "Anxious", were honest that the fish was not caught by one angler, therefore disqualifying them, according to the tournament’s rules. That meant they unfortunately wouldn’t rake in the $129,000 in big prizes that were awarded to the first-place winner.
USA: monster 102 pound blue catfish
Angler Rob Stanley of Olathe caught the 102-pound blue catfish in Kansas‘s Missouri River, breaking the previous state record of 94 pounds. The record catfish is currently pending. Stanley has caught and released more than a few big cats in his day, and he was ready to release the fish right away.
Stanley’s scale only went to 100 pounds, and when he hoisted the fish on it, the scale read “full.” He did a double service to anglers everywhere when he released the fish, because the bait he used to catch it was a chunk of Asian carp.
Stanley learned most of what he knows about catching big blues since joining the blue catfish club. Earlier this summer he eclipsed his goal of a 50-pounder when he caught a blue catfish of around 70 pounds from the Kansas River.

IGFA: Rejects Record Ply 64 pounds, 8 ounces striped Bass
The possible 64 pounds, 8 ounces striped bass Arkansas and world record was rejected by IGFA (international Game Fish Association). This huge fish also was entered into the Mustad Hooks “Hook-a-Million” contest. If the IGFA certified his record, he would win $1 million. But there was a big problem, he was using an umbrella-rig that has more popularly become known as an "Alabama rig".
Rodney Ply received an email from Jack Vitek, "World Records Coordinator" for the IGFA, part of it said:
“After significant review by our Rules Committee, we consider your lure to be a spreader bar arrangement. IGFA Equipment Regulations state: “spreader bars are permitted to be used provided that the actual fishing line is attached to the snap or other release device, either directly or with some other material.” Since the angler’s line is not attached to a release device so that the hook could be disengaged from the lure arrangement, this lure violated IGFA equipment rules for spreader bars.”

IRELAND: Carrigaholt Sea Angling Centre fishing report
Carrigaholt Sea Angling Centre fishing report from Luke Aston: "Same group in fishing with me all last week and they had a good range of fish but the highlight had to be last Thursday when we hooked into another Six-Gilled Shark and then followed up with a specimen "John Dory".On Thursday with good conditions we headed for a mark that has produced many good fish for me including Conger, Skate and on at least on occasion each year over the last five, some fine Six-Gill shark. One of the lads decided to fish heavy and we put on a skate trace with a big bait. We did not have to wait that long for a heavy bite and although we got plenty head shakes early on, after an hour some people on the boat we talking about “being stuck in the bottom”! But shortly after that there was more obvious movement as the fish tired and started to come up before heading back to the sea bed. Another hour gave us our first look at what turned out to be a Six-Gill shark of 3.5 metres length and an estimated 600 pound (271 kilos). Luckily the hook had stuck right in the scissors of its mouth so the mono trace was clear! What a monster to see on the surface. After lots of photos and some film it was turned loose."
