Here the last IGFA (International Game Fish Association)world record highlights for July:

On May 31st, angler Veronica Lane Ostarly caught and released an impressive 107 cm Atlantic snook (Centropomus spp.), while fishing with her boyfriend, a local fishing guide, in the C-24 canal near their home in Stuart, Florida. Ostarly needed only 10 minutes to subdue her potential All-Tackle Length record snook after it hit the bucktail jig she was casting. The current IGFA record is 104 cm.

Angler Daniel R. Kruse caught a 24.49 kg (54 lb) flathead catfish (Pylodictis olivaris) while fishing from the banks of the Kanapolis Reservoir near his hometown of Lyons, Kansas, USA on April 26th. Kruse was casting a red and white grub when the fish hit and it took the experienced angler nearly an hour to land on his light tackle outfit. With the existing record at 20.77 kg (45 lb 12 oz), Kruse’s catch could potentially earn him the men’s 3 kg (6 lb) line class record.

Angler Caleb Newton of Fredericksburg, Virginia pulled in a massive 7.88 kg (17 lb 6 oz) northern snakehead (Channa argus) while fishing the Potomac River on June 1st. Newton was fishing with local guide Phillip Wilcox and needed just over a minute to boat the exotic predator after it hit the Lucky Craft crankbait he was casting on 8 kg (16 lb) line. The current IGFA men’s line class record is 7.85 kg (17 lb 4 oz).

Japanese angler Toshiki Matsuura was fishing with corn in Japan’s Yodo River on April 20th when he hooked something big. After a tough 20 minute fight, Matsuura finally landed an 18.8 kg (41 lb 7 oz) common carp (Cyprinus carpio) that could earn him the new male Junior record, which currently stands at 17.85 kg (39 lb 5 oz). After the fish was weighed and properly documented, it was released alive to grow even bigger.

South Florida angler Jimmy Wickett took advantage of the calm summer weather and took his boat over to the Bahamas for a few days of fishing. While he was snapper fishing off Bimini on June 8th, he attracted the attention of a 8.16 kg (18 lb 0 oz) cero mackerel (Scomberomorus regalis) that could potentially earn him the new All-Tackle record as well as the men’s 6 kg (12 lb) line class record. Wickett needed 15 minutes to land the toothy fish after it ate the ballyhoo chunk he was drifting. Both the current All-Tackle record and men’s 6 kg (12 lb) line class record are 7.71 kg (17 lb).

USA: possible 72 lb world record muskie released

John Grover, an angler from Green Bay, Wisconsin, caught a monster size muskie.

He was fishing walleyes  when he hooked something notably larger. He fought the 64 inch fish for almost an hour on a 17 pound test line.

After landing it, he landed the fish, measured it, took a few photos, and released it back into the bay.

This fish was 64 inch long with at least a 30-inch girth. The current world IGFA (www.igfa.org) all tackle muskie world record is 67.5 pounds set by another Wisconsin angler back in 1949.

While the reported dimensions would put Grover's fish at an estimated at least 72 pound - 32.6 kilo, he cannot submit the catch for consideration because it was never weighed on a certified scale.

“I didn’t really think anything of it when I caught it. I just knew it was big,” Grover told  “To be honest, I don’t fish for muskies, so I just imagined the record fish to be like 70 or 71 inches until I came in to "Smokey" bait shop and talked to him.”

Grover asked Jeff Tilkins, owner of Smokey’s on the Bay Bait Shop, about the size of the muskie mounted on the wall of the bait shop. After finding out that it was a 52-inch fish, Grover casually mentioned that he just caught one larger.

HONG KONG: Anglers reel a 500 lb Pacific Blue Marlin

A great news for Honk Kong fishing anglers, a 498 pound - 226 kilos Pacific blue marlin was caught by 6  deep sea anglers on board "Warbird", 65 nautical miles due south of Aberdeen.

The fish took 3 and half hours to reel in aboard.

Angler Stuart  Kim of the "Mandarin Sports Fishing Club" said there had been no reports of a blue marlin catch in local waters for at least 15-20 years.

The team of fishermen, skippered by David Tuthill, 31, caught it last Sunday in perfect weather conditions near the Dongsha Islands.

Stuart, a 25 year veteran of the Hong Kong fishing community, said aslo: "It's extremely rare. They generally prowl 48 degrees north (of Hong Kong coasts) and 48 degrees south, so to be this far north is quite a way out of its normal range," he said.

Stuart believes the catch could help boost interest in fishing in Hong Kong.

ALASKA: hot summer fishing action out of the coasts

Here the last fishing report from Tim Berg in Alaska:

"To say the fishing was good on Opening Day (July 1st) of Ling cod season would be an understatement.

Our boats in both Seward & Homer caught "Combo Limits" of Gigantic Lingcod (14 Big Lings over 60 Pounds) plus limits of big bright Coho ( Silver Salmon) and in addition Limits of Halibut, Black Rockfish, Yellow - Eye Snapper and Pacific Cod.

Seas were calm and the skies were wet, but this didn't dampen the smoking hot fishing action had by all aboard. Angler Terry Gonsalves hoists a 68 lb.

Ling Cod up for a quick pictured. Fishing was just incredible for every angler as the action was non-stop and produced limits of Ling Cod as well as many other species.
Capt. Chris Boyd is all smiles as he holds up a #26.6 Lb. Yellow Eye Rockfish taken by angler Fred Houtman of Boise, Idaho.

Fred was fishing onboard the vessel Tia' Rose, part of Tim Berg's Alaskan Fishing Adventures fleet when he hooked this record book fish. The Trophy Fish was hooked using a Yellow and Orange 16 ounce Bomber Jig. "I was not sure what I hooked as everyone on the boat was hooked up to Lings, rockfish and halibut. When I first saw this monster I knew it would qualify as a State Trophy.

This is a fish of a lifetime - could not have done it without Capt. Chris and his great hardworking crew!!

ALASKA: fisherman caugh a 200 year old fish

In Alaska, the magazine "Daily Sitka Sentinel" reported that passionate angler Henry Liebman reeled in a 40 lb - 18 kg red shortraker rockfish that experts believe is at least 200 years old.

He caught the fish from a depth of about 900 feet.

Shortraker  rockfishes, are one of the most commonly sought fish in Alaska and can live at depths of more than 2,000 feet.

This fish that would beat the current record of 175 years. The Department of Fish and Game, said the fish is still being analyzed but he believes it is at least 200 years old.

Some years ago, a commercial fisherman boat caught a similarly sized rockfish that turned out to be 115 years old.

Tidingco noted that if the fish is actually as old as believed, it would easily predate the Alaska Purchase in 1867.

The clam is oldest known animal on record book because it believed to have been 400 years old.

USA: giant 58 pound world record balack buffalo

Angler Steve Coursey was out for an afternoon of bass fishing with his  friend on  the Tennessee River about halfway between the Chickamauga Dam and downtown.

After few minutes of fishing Coursey caught a 58 pound - 25.5 kg black buffalo carp. He boated it and showed it at the "Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency" that signed off on it as both the state and world record.

Angler Edward McLain had held those records since 1984, for a 55 lb 8 oz. - 24.9 kg black buffalo caught in Cherokee Lake.

Coursey decided to ride out the big buffalo's fight on the Salmo lure. He really didn't have the rod or line he would've chosen for such an undertaking, but his 6.6 foot St. Croix rod and Penn reel with 8 lb (4 kg) test line held up through a 40 minute fight.
