NEW ZEALAND: world record size brown trout
Angler Evan Johnson while fishing on the Upper Waitaki hydro canals landed and huge brown trout, surely one of the biggest ever landed in all the world. This mammoth brown trout was 39.7 pound - 18 kilos. This giant brown trout catch follows other monster canal fishes; a 37,4 pound (17 kilos) rainbow trout caught by American Mike Was in late2002 and a 38,5 pound (17.5kilo) rainbow landed the following year by Tony Washington.
In recent years fish over 35+ pound (14 - 15kilos) have been recorded, with fish weights in double figures not so uncommon here in New Zealand.

THAILAND: snakehead fly fishing
Here the last fishing report from Top Thailand Fishing Guide Jean Francois Helias: "I'm still guiding here our common friend Richard Hart from Orlando, Florida, who has a deep passion for the various snakehead species inhabiting in our Thai waters.
We just came back last night from a 2 days fly
fishing expedition at a reservoir close to Burma. Richard caught there on fly his biggest giant snakehead (channa
micropeltes) to date, weighing close to 11 pounds on certified scales. A lovely
colorful male (see inserted pic below), in full mating colors justifying the
name of "freshwater tiger" given to that particular specie by southeast asian
anglers. That "gangster of the deep", as I like to call myself that specie,
was taken on a black/silver DNA Bush Pig.
Very few sport anglers worlwide can brag they have
captured a giant snakehead in the wild on a fly. Richard Hart did it twice. He
already achieved that ultimate challenge two weeks ago, in the jungle of
Malaysia, with the catch of an over 9 pounds giant snakehead (see inserted pic
below). These two catches of a lifetime confirm his reputation as a highly
skilled and dedicated fly angler.
Richard who is fishing in Thailand until the
beginning of December is now gonna targetting a few IGFA world records for both
the All Tackle and the Freshwater Fly categories. He already succeeded 12 days
ago by capturing in northern Thailand, on lure this time, a 0.54 kg Hampala
dispar (see inserted pic below) which earned him an All Tackle record for that
specie.
For those who would like to know what tackle was
used for these catches on fly, note that Richard, listening to the advices of
yours truly, is now using exclusively Tibor reels (the Rolls Royce of fly
reels). To me, Tibor reels are without a doubt the finest fly reels ever made.
They are truly worth every single penny invested in them. As for his fly rods,
Richard uses only G.Loomis. I personally use mainly Sage, my favorite brand of
all, though I do enjoy having an affair at times with my 11 WT G.Loomis Cross
Current. For tippets, he uses exclusively the Rio brand.
Big up to Richard Hart for his recent fishing
achievements!
Also we have plenty of old friends (Simon Huggins,
Greg Kohler, Dale Fischer, Dr Lenny Kouba, Gavin Clarke, etc) returning to
Thailand to fish with us this coming November. So I expect lots and lots of
catches, and hopefully a few new records in the whole bunch."

USA: Michigan musky state record
Angler Joseph Seeberger was bass fishing on Lake Bellaire last week when the big fish struck his minnow. It took more than two hours to land 58 pound - 26.4 kilos monster musky on light line.
“It looked like a big log coming out of the water when I first saw the fish. I think we all were all just waiting for the line to break at any time,” Joseph told the Detroit Free Press. “Once the fish was in the boat, many high fives, some ‘holy cows,’ and I am sure a swear word or two.”
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources confirmed that the state’s muskie record was shattered by more than seven pounds last week. They certified the record, officially declaring that it weighed 58 pounds, measured 59 inches in length (that’s eight inches longer than my second grade son is tall) and had a girth of 29 inches.
The previous state record muskie weighed 50,5 pounds and measured 56,13 inches long. It was caught by Kyle Anderson on Torch Lake in late 2009.
MEXICO: 1.4 million dollar marlin
The annual world famous fishing tournament, the Bisbee's Black & Blue was landed a 1.4 million dollar marlin!

When the boat was at the docks, the big marlin was brought to the scale and it weighed a total of 465.5 pound. Because the first day of the tournament there were no winners, the $ 700.000 jackpot was rolled over to the second day, earning Dave and the Frantic Pace Team a net $1,4 million dollar jackpot.

IGFA: Hot World Record Catches October 2012
The bite turned on for three ambitious freshwater anglers in this month’s edition of IGFA Hot Catches. These potential world records from Australia, Canada, and French Guiana have just arrived at IGFA headquarters and are awaiting review by the World Record committee. Check out the latest contenders for trahira, barramundi, and bull trout world records!
Aussie angler Mark Hope is no
stranger to catching record class barramundi (Latescalcarifer). In fact,
he currently holds six line class records on barramundi and has recently
submitted two more potential record claims for the species: the 37 kg (80 lb)
line class record and an All-Tackle Length record. Hope’s potential 37 kg (80
lb) line class record, a 27.6 kg (60 lb 13 oz) fish, was landed on September 2nd
while he was fishing Australia’s Lake Tinaroo. Hope was trolling a Z-Man
Swimmer behind his kayak when the fish hit and he then needed 10 minutes to
land it. The record for this line class currently stands at 26.8 kg (59 lb 1
oz). Four days later on September 6th, Hope was again trolling
antother Z-man in Tinaroo Swimmer when he landed a potential All-Tackle Length
record fish. Once the fish was subdued, Hope took the necessary measurements
and photos and then released his fish alive. With the current record at 127 cm,
Hope’s 130 cm barra qualifies him for the potential new All-Tackle Length
record.
French angler Richard Commergnat landed a
94 cm trahira (Hopliasspp.) on July 13, 2012 while casting a plug on the Sinnamary
River in French Guiana. Commergnat landed the fish in 3 minutes, and after
properly documenting his catch he released it alive. With the current record
standing at 91 cm, Commergnat’s fish qualifies him for the potential new
All-Tackle Length record.
Junior angler Lauren N. Dunn of Danville, California,
USA, landed a gorgeous bull trout (Salvelinusconfluentus)
on August 20th while fishing the
picturesque Wigwam River in British Columbia, Canada. Dunn caught the fish
while casting a bucktail jig and needed 5 minutes to land her potentail Female
Junior record fish, which weighed in at 4.65
kg (10 lb 4 oz). The current IGFA record is vacant.
The IGFA World Records
committee has a full plate of records to review this month, including these six
saltwater highlights. Anglers in Australia and both coasts of the United States
are certainly eager to hear word of the potential new black grouper, Atlantic
snook, Pacific halibut, and southern bluefin tuna records, but one more record
application may be drawing a bit more attention: Guy Yocom’s record application
for the yellowfin tuna he caught off the coast of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Read
on for details of this month’s saltwater IGFA Hot Catches!
Angler Bill McGraw of Mount Laurel, New Jersey, USA, landed a beautiful 19.96 kg (44 lb) black
grouper (Mycteropercabonaci)
on August 11th while targeting yellowtail snapper off Key West,
Florida, USA with Capt. Brian Bennett. After eating a chunk of
bonito, McGraw fought the grouper for 15 minutes before it was boated. The fish
qualifies McGraw for the potential new men’s 8 kg (16 lb) line class record, as
the current record stands at 10.77 kg (23 lb 12 oz).
Angler Kathleen J. Rounds recently traveled north
from her home in southern California to target some giant Pacific halibut off
the coast of Alaska. Guided by Capt. John Davis, Rounds landed a 103.42 kg
(228 lb) Pacific halibut (Hippoglossusstenolepis) on September 6th off Gustavus, Alaska. Rounds
needed 40 minutes to land the fish after it ate the live cod she was usuing for
bait. Using 25 lb line, this fish qualifies Rounds for the potential new
women’s 15 kg (30 lb) line class record, which currently statnds at 97.18 kg
(214 lb 14 oz).
From his home in Padbury, Western
Australia, angler Craig Radford traveled across the continent
of Australia to catch the southern bluefin tuna (Thunnusmaccoyii) bite off the
coast of Narooma, New South Wales. The trip was certainly worth it, as Radford
landed a potential new men’s 10 kg (20 lb) tippet class record fish on June 27th.
Craig was casting a deceiver fly with Capt.
Benn Boulton, when he hooked into a 26 kg (57 lb 5 oz) fish that he subdued
in an impressive nine minutes. The current IGFA record is 25 kg (55 lb 1 oz).
Every September and October, south Florida
anglers enjoy great fishing as the mullet schools make their way south along
the coast. South Florida anglers Martini Arostegui and Paul Adams both took advantage of the
great snook bite, and now have two potential All-Tackle Length records. Fishing
the St. Lucie River with Capt. Mike
Holliday on September 8th, Arostegui landed a 101 cm Atlantic
snook (Centropomusspp.)
after it inhaled the live mullet he was soaking. Five days later on September
13th, Paul Adams pulled a 104 cm monster snook from the Jupiter Inlet after it
ate a live pinfish and took Adams on a 30 minute fight. Both fish were properly
measured and released alive, qualifying them both for All-Tackle Length
records.
On Friday, September 28,
the IGFA received Guy Yocom’s record
application for the 193.68 kg (427 lb) yellowfin tuna (Thunnusalbacares)
he caught on September 18 while fishing aboard his boat El Suertudo off the coast of Cabo San
Lucas, Mexico. Yocom fought the big tunay 50 minutes to land it after it
ate the chunked tuna he was using for bait. Once the fish was boated, Capt. Greg DiStefano measured the fish
and decided it was close enough to call it a day. Back at the docks in
Cabo, Yocom’s fish was officially weighed on an IWS Scalemasterconfirming the
accurate reading of 193.68 kg (427 lb). Yocom’s fish qualifies for both the
potential new All-Tackle record and men’s 60 kg (130 lb) line class record;
both of which currently belong to Mike Livingston, who caught a 183.7 kg (405
lb) yellowfin on November 30, 2010 while fishing off of Magdalena Bay, Mexico.

ECUADOR: Galapagos marlin report
Today fishing report from Ecuagringo about marlin fishing in Galapagos Islands: "The last 10 days have been a bit slow in Manta and Salinas with the marlin bite. Some scattered action from striped marlin has been reported in Northern Manta. Water temperature have been a mix of 71 to 73 in some areas. Galapagos has reported colder weather and some windy days but the tuna bite has been good and although no boats have gone out in the last 10 days to marlin fish local fishermen have reported seeing good numbers of tailing striped marlin while fishing for grouper on Rosa Blanca. Flying fish as well as sardines are present which should lead to a good marlin bite.
The Big Fish and Patricia are undergoing their planed maintenance in order to be ready for what promises to be a fantastic 2013 season. The weather has been quite chilly and winds have been blowing. Artisanal fishermen going after wahoo have reported a good tuna bite and those that have ventured after grouper onto Rosa Blanca bank have reported seeing schools of feeding and tailing marlin on the bank as well as plenty of bait. With a few charters. "

RUSSIA: Umba report from Kola peninsula
A salmon fishing report for Umba river in Kola Peninsula in Norther Russia from Salmonjunkies: "With only 2 weeks left of the season in Umba, we can conclude that this autumn has been very generous to our all our many wonderful and loyal guests. Almost every evening during September we celebrated new members in our Twenty Pounds club. What a great season
Unfortunately our first August weeks was pretty skinny booked, with only some few rods fishing Umba.
A common misconception is, that August is not as productive as September and October months. However August can be as good as any of the later weeks. That became obviously when Rolf Berliat caught a fantastic 29Lbs Chrome sealiced salmon in Lowe Rat pool (The second largest salmon this season). Christoph Meyer and Uwe Kopp average Third week in August more than twenty salmon each, with 2 huge +20Lbs salmon to Uwe
Last week in August:
In this week we went from late summer to autumn - the surrounding forest literally exploded in a spectacular mix of colours along the banks of Umba river.
Largest salmon caught was following:
29 salmon between 10Lbs -14 Lbs
16 salmon between 15Lbs -19Lbs
2 salmon between 20Lbs - 24Lbs.
The first week in September:
September is a spectacular period in Umba with autumn colors making a fantastic scenery for the eye and the camera. There is simply nothing like it. Now the warm weather turns into crispy cold mornings and water temperature drops, but anyhow with salmon quite aggressive busy in the pools.
The fishing hours on the river get shorter as darkness of the night appears much earlier. But then there is time for a Scotch or a glass of wine. Time for talk and tales around the fireplace in the lodge: “The huge salmon that was lost” or “The beautiful ones that was caught”; “The bear that was seen only 100 feet away crossing the river”.... Autumn in Umba is a very special time of the year.
Largest salmon caught was following:
14 salmon between10Lbs – 14Lbs
6 salmon between 15 Lbs – 19Lbs
2 salmon between 20Lbs – 24Lbs
1 salmon between 25Lbs – 29Lbs
