US: World Record Sunfish Caught in Arizona

This monster size redear sunfish was caught in Arizona on Lake Havasu the past 16 February. this huge fish was exactly 5.78 lb - 2.61 kg and will surely beat the old world record for this specie.

Angler Hector Brito caught the 17 inch long fish while fishing with a dropshot rig and nightcrawler and took it to a local tackle shop to have it weighed on an Arizona (AGFD) certified scale.

So to officially qualify as a world record, he’ll have to submit a formal application with the IGFA (International Game Fish Association - www.igfa.org). The current world record, for this fish is 5.5 lb caught also Lake Havasu.

It isnt' a too big surprised if a larger sunfish is caught from Lake Havasu, because from some years the lake’s invasive "quagga" mussel population has become a new food source and a reason anglers are regularly finding sunfish weighing 2 lb or more.

NEW ZEALAND: 907 lb monster size bluefin tuna caught

Female Auckland angler Donna Pascoe has caught a potentially world record sized Pacific bluefin tuna. A monster fish of 907 lb or 411 kg!!

She had a nearly 5 hour struggle on 130 lb tackle to land the bluefin tuna (Thunnus orientalis), fishing off a charter boat, Gladator, out of Houhora in the far north of New Zealand at the famed King Bank.

Any record claim has to be certified by the International Game Fish Association.

If her catch is verified by the IGFA (International Game Fish Association - www.igfa.org), Pascoe’s bluefin will upstage Baker’s potential record ( 777 lbs caught in September) by roughly 130 lbs, and outstrip the current record by about 167 pounds. 

The current record bluefin weighed 739 lb, 6 oz and was taken two years ago, also in Houhora, New Zealand.

CANADA: monster lake trout and giant brown trout

Top fishing guide Eric Haataja show us in these videos two huge trout caught from the ice, one big lake trout and one world record size brown trout for ice fishing.

The brown trout video was shot at Milwaukee Harbor, which is no doubt known for producing absolute slob browns. This brown  measured one inch longer than the current world record (39 inch).

The big lake trout video was shot in an inland unknown lake.
