CHINA: huge 220 lb back carps caught

Some huge size back carps (Piceus Mylopharyngodon) were caught last week in China.

When typhoon "Fitow" arrived eastern China few days ago, much of the water in a lake reservoir near the city of Huangyan was discharged to alleviate pressure from the huge flooding.

The lake contained an abundance of giant fishes, some of them enormous; most of them were rare back carps. Hundreds of local villagers rushed to catch them and took photos of fish measuring over a four feet long. They say some weighed more than 220 lb - 100 kilos.

The reservoir lake, which is used to protect from floods and generate energy, is also used for aquaculture, which explains the presence of so many fish.
