US: monster size flathehad catfish caught in Missouri

Angler Robert Davidson landed this record size flathead catfish while fishing on the Missouri river.

The monster catfish took a green sunfish baited on a bank line. The huge catfish weighed 99 pounds (45 kilos) and would have been a new state record.

he fish was brought back to the Missouri River and later released to be caught again on rod.

Still to this day seems that nobody has been able to successfully land a flathead weighing more than 100 pound on a rod and reel.

ALASKA: caught a 215 pound halibut

Angler Hastings Franks holds up a mega-flatfish estimated at around 215 lbs. The fish was caught aboard the charter boat "Grand Aleutian" while fishing in Kachemak Bay off Homer, Alaska.

Using herring for bait and fishing in 200 feet of water, the angler struggled for over thirty minutes to bring the huge fish to the surface. Captain David asked the angler if he would like to release the fish, his offer was immediately declined.

After deciding that the fish would be kept, it was, gaffed twice, and then pull aboard. The big fish was filleted on the sea and not weighted at the dock.

WORLD RECORDS: hot cathes for Septembre 2014

Here a a nice mix of salt and freshwater potential IGFA (International Game Fish Association) world record catches in this edition of the Hot Catches

On a recent trip to the Tree River in the remote Nunavut region of Canada, angler James Schmid caught and released a beautiful 7.26 kg (16 lb) Arctic char (Salvelinus alpinus) that could potentially earn him the new men’s 4 kg (8 lb) line class record. Schmid was casting an orange jig, and needed nearly 30 minutes to land the stubborn char. Once subdued, Schmid quickly documented the fish and released it alive. The current IGFA record is vacant, due to the recent expansion of freshwater records into male and female categories.

Exhausted and fatigued from the chemotherapy treatment she’s currently undergoing, Kiwi angler Jane Amber Rooke was just looking forward to a relaxing day on the water when she boarded the Kahlua on July 27th, and headed offshore with Capt. Stuart Sheard in search of kingfish. Instead, she ended up in an hour long battle with the potential new women’s 8 kg southern yellowtail (Seriola lalandi) – an experience she’ll remember for the rest of her life, according Rooke’s testimony. The 39.40 kg (86 lb 13 oz) yellowtail was hooked off New Zealand’s Cavalli Islands, after it crushed the live blue koheru she was trolling. If approved, Rooke’s incredible catch will exceed the current record by nearly 15 kg (30 lb)!

NORWAY: kayak angler caught a 1,200+ shark

Kayak angler Joel Abrahamsson  fishing in North Norway caught a record  Greenland shark weighing an estimated 1,247 pounds, according to Kayak Fish Magazine.

He was fishing less than a mile off Andörja Island, Norway, in over 1,500 feet of water when he caught what is considered an unofficial record.

The previous unofficial record was a 400-pound salmon shark caught and released in Alaska in 2008.

After a few abortive takes on 8 lb dead bait Abrahamsson got a Greenland shark to stick.

Abrahamsson said the fight was the strangest of his fishing career. He used a Penn International 50 VSX on a Sharkbound XH rod.

The science crew laid the shark alongside a boat, where it measured 401 centimeters long, with a girth of 202 cm. The weight was calculated by a formula: 1247 pounds.

The shark could be estimated older than 200 years. Seems there are only about 12 to 15 Greenland sharks caught every year in all of Norway, so it is a rare species

He fought the big shark for over 90 minutes; the huge fish was realesed after all measurements.
