IRELAND: two big common skates boated

Fishing is hot in Irish waters; here the report from Capt. Hamish Currie  on board  Predator II from Red Bay in the County of Antrim.

"Angler Paul Strange had more that a bit of skill and a fair helping of luck when he caught a magnificent 90 kilo - 209 lb  skate only two hours after landing a smaller one of 61 kilo -  135 lb

A total of three skates were caught that day along with quite a few congers  on a very deep drop off 20 km north of Red Bay.

As bait was used a whole dogfish lowered into about 480 feet of water and using  50 lb stand up gear; the big skate fight lasted around one hour and ten  minutes.
