IGFA: hot world record catches of July

Angler Mark Milkovich, a native of Ketchum, Idaho, USA, recently caught and released a 92.93 kg (204 lb 14 oz) tiger shark (Galeocerdo cuvier) while vacationing in Freeport, Bahamas. Milkovich was fishing with local guide Colin Rose on June 22nd and after many failed attempts, he finally had a successful hook-up on a large female shark on his 1 kg (2 lb) line. After a tense 30 minutes of chasing the fish, Rose was able to leader the shark and eventually subdue it so it could be weighed, measured, tagged and released. If approved, Milkovich’s catch would crush the existing record of 27.4 kg (60 lb 6 oz).

Australian native and 2012 Top Female Freshwater Angler Benchawan Thiansungoen landed a potential All-Tackle record chao phraya catfish (Pangasius sanitwongsei) on May 18th while fishing Palm Tree Lagoon, Thailand. Benchawan’s fish ate a piece of chicken she was soaking, and it took the experienced angler 30 minutest to subdue the 55.25 kg (121 lb 12 oz) fish. Once the fish was landed, it was quickly weighed and documented before being released alive.

Miami native Dennis Triana landed a huge 89 cm Pacific sierra mackerel (Scomberomorus sierra) during a recent fishing trip to Los SueƱos, Costa Rica. Fishing with Capt. Michael Alligood on June 8th, Triana hooked up while casting a diving Bomber plug and needed about five minutes to land the fish. Once aboard, the fish was quickly measured, photographed and released – qualifying Triana for the potential new All-Tackle Length record. The current IGFA record is 83 cm.
