Two big swordifishes were landed in Florida and in Virgina. The first one was caught by angler Bobby Boyle during the annual Miami Swordfish Tournament. Bobby was using a 50pound Shimano Tiagra reel, and it took Boyle 5 hours to reel in a 429 lb big swordfish. He was fishing on board "Stake Out", to victory, but also got Boyle the Miami Swordfish Tournament record.
In Virginia angler Joseph Harris was fishing with Capt. Justin Wilson aboard "Just Right" when he hooked a big 446 lb swordfish. this huge swordfish was confirmed as the new state record, smashing the previous record by over 65 pounds, which was set by a fellow Virginia Beach angler more than 30 years ago.
