What a start to the light tackle season in Far North Queensland!
Townsville's Cape Bowling Green has been providing anglers with plenty of marlin shots daily now since as early as April. While we wouldn't usually expect the season so really fire until July and August (just in time for the Townsville Billfish Challenge), the fish have been out of the blocks early this year and in greater numbers than we've seen in a while.
The average size of fish is right around that 10kg mark and are great fun on the light tackle. Some of the best fishing have been produced by Capt. Dean Beech on private boat Maverick who released 14 in three days fishing last week (including this first marlin for 10 year old Harrison Stark above). Also the club young guns have been getting in on the action with Luke, Daniel and Ethan releasing 5 little blacks on their 5.49 centre console on Saturday including two caught on 4lb tackle!
