WORD RECORDS: hot cathes of October 2016

American angler Guido Rahr poses with this gorgeous 34 kg (75 lb) taimen (Hucho taimen) that he recently caught and released on an expedition to Eastern Russia, while fishing the Konin River. Rahr needed approximately 30 minutes to land the massive taimen, after it crushed the custom fly he was casting. If approved, the catch would earn Rahr the new men’s 10 kg (20 lb) tippet class world record, which currently stands at 30.4 kg (67 lb).

Angler Mike Stolte struggles to hold this massive muskellunge (Esox masquinongy) that he caught and released on September 4th, while fishing the famed St. Lawrence River outside of Ontario, Canada. Stolte needed several minutes to subdue the potential record musky, after the fish crushed the large wooden crankbait he was fishing. Measuring out at 133 cm (52.5 inches), Stolte’s fish will potentially tie the current All-Tackle Length world record, which stands at 132 cm (52 inches).
