Anger Kurt Griffis caught a 7.17 kg (15 lb 13 oz) walleye (
Stizostedion vitreum) that could become the largest walleye caught on fly tackle, ever recorded at the IGFA (international Game Fish Association). Griffis was fishing Fort Peck, Montana on October 8th when the potential record walleye hit the white bunny pike fly he was casting.
If approved, Griffis’ catch will become the new men’s 8 kg (16 lb) tippet class record, and the heaviest fly-caught walleye ever recorded by the IGFA. The current record is 4.3 kg (9 lb 8 oz).
