The past week on January 2, angler Kenneth Westerfield, was was deep fishing on wrecks on Captain Kane Bounds’ Fish Bound out of Ocean City, when he buckled down and hauled in a monster tautog.
The big bottom fish pegged the scales down to 28.8 pounds - 13 kg at Sunset Marina in Ocean City, breaking the previous record of 25 pounds, which was previously set b out of Ocean City, New Jersey.
So, if approved, this is world-record tautog (aka blackfish). And now it appears the current world record, in place since 1998, has been busted
Blackfish are slow-growing dinosaurs and any fish over 20-25 pounds could be well over 50 years old.
