WORLD RECORD: tropical gar caught in Costa Rica

Top angler Dr. Jose Pereira Perez caught the potential new I.G.F.A. "All-Tackle" record for tropical gar (Atractosteus tropicus)  while fishing the Rio Frio in his home country of Costa Rica.

Jose Pereira  needed only 5 minutes to subdue the 14.76 kg (32 lb 8 oz) gar after it ate the live mojarra he was casting. The current I.G.F.A. record is 8.64 kg (19 lb).
